QuoteRoyalistDo we think the ads claiming to have booked two sites and only need one (which would probably work OK, because the original booker would still be there), or wanting to swap dates (which obviously won't work if anyone checks id) are legitimate, or do we think they are more subtle efforts by the odious Tran? They sound like one of Tran's tactics. He would offer to swap, but when theby Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

If I remember right, that's close to what happened before the Harlow Fire. Here's a video on that fire from 1961. Now is a good time to mention, again, that the Miami Mountain Lookout, between Mariposa and Oakhurst, needs volunteers. You do just one day at a time, not weeks at a time, and you can pick your dates from a calendar. Follow the link for more info.by Dave - General Discussion

Quotehotrod4x5The conservancy has a presence in the valley, but I don't think they have many jobs. Getting a job with the NPS is about as easy as hitting the lottery. I am more than qualified for a visitor use assistant job and my application never even gets looked at by a real person. The usajobs.gov website is so ruthless in their vetting process. I hope not. I have to drive out to Tioga Pass in the morning. From what I hear there is no snow on the road - or near it. Hopefully this storm won't bring any in. People will be beyond pissed off if they don't open the road on Saturday as planned. QuotemammaseetaThank you for replying! So with a family (it is just me and her actually) would I not be able to rent one of the tent cabins or dorm rooms at the employee rate like everyone else? Do you know approximately what the rental amount is, and does DNC provide them or would I have to find a rental on my own? (Which is next to impossible from where I sit, unless I pay the vacation rental nby Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There are many families that live in the Valley. There is housing available, but with a family you'll have to pay rent. It's not cheap. Most live outside the Valley on the community. It's not the level of "management" but the level of pay so you can earn enough to pay rent. There are certain jobs that require you to live in the Valley - and you still have to pay rent. Tran, I think that's his name, is a reseller, a scalper. He buys blocks of campsites somehow and sells those sites to others. I'm pretty sure I know how he does this but I don't want to post it.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hopefully they love to knock them down. They, the rock stacks not your kids, don't belong in the park. Outside the park; I don't care about what anyone does with any rock.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotehotrod4x5So TM campground should be open early this year. I was told that before July 15th, if it opens, the entire campground is first come, is this accurate? No. No one is giving any dates. You'll have to check with the campground office for opening dates or if reservations are needed or not. It's best to make sure BEFORE you go up there without a reservation.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I haven't heard any direct reports, but I know they've been up there checking things out. I'm sure they're removing things and fixing things they can get to.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There's less than two feet of snow up there. It shouldn't take long to melt out. I'm sure if they can send a truck out with a blade, they'll do that. The big rotary plows just eat up too much gas.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteeeekIt's still not a good idea to just let the bear play with your bear container. Shoo the bear away and go back to sleep. The goal here is to make the experience of visiting a campground a bad experience for the bear. You're right, don't let it play with your stuff and shoo it away. When the bear gets comfortable around people it becomes a danger to people. Quotemtn manIs this a "for sure" statement based on positive official statements? I'm trying to figure out if there's a chance I can get over the pass on the 10th of May. Inform me...Yes, it is a "for sure" statement. They will start plowing, if needed, on May 15, five days after the day you plan on going. The snow might have melted by then. QuoteparkloverThere would probably be a liability issue with volunteers clearing Tioga especially near Olmstead Point since it is one of the avalanche areas. I am sure the park is going to need help both inside in offices and outside this year. They are going to plow starting May 15 instead of April 15. Since the snow pack is half of what it usually is, that delay might not affect anything. If there is any snow left on May 15 it should be enough for one truck to clear in one pass. I'm sure they'll open it sooner if the snow is off the road.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
