If you live close to SF and you need a hiking fix, Point Reyes is a worthy destination.

I agree, beautiful place. Only been there twice though. Have you been to Lost Coast?

Myself, three times. Twice hiking north from Black Sands Beach, once south from the mouth of the Mattole. Sadly I don't have any pictures in order at this point, but its spectacular.

Here's some Lost Coast photos from Memorial Day 2010: Lost Coast Pictures. These were taken from the north, starting at Mattole and going down to Spanish Flat.

About 20 years ago, I did a 100 mi bike race called "Tour of the Unknown Coast". My performance that day was forgettable, but the scenery was memorable! The combination of redwoods and stunning seascapes was fantastic.
