April 21 Spring road opening operations have begun at Lassen Volcanic National Park. As of April 21st, the road will be open to the gate at the Devastated Area. Please pay attention to the road surface as the snow melts during the day; meltwater on the road surface can refreeze overnight making the road slippery in the early morning. Snow removal equipment will be repositioned to the Southwest entrance station area and the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center to begin snow clearing operations on Monday, April 23rd. The snow level at Lake Helen is currently reported at 130", and with the warmer temperatures expected over this weekend, we expect to see reduction and melting of the snowpack.
