Winner Announced for Bristlecone Art Competition

The winning image for the Bristlecone Art Competition has been selected and it is a watercolor image by Bishop resident MaryAnn Thomas. The large format watercolor will be on display in the new Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center beginning this Saturday, September 1, the date of the grand opening celebration for the new visitor center.
Over 60 images were submitted so the competition was formidable, but the winning image was a unanimous choice by the four judge panel. The ‘Bristlecones on a Hillside’ image will eventually find its way into prints and a poster which will be available next season in the bookstore within the new visitor center.
All of the finalists’ images will be on display in the new visitor center which will open its doors to the public this Saturday, September 1, with a grand opening ceremony beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The grand opening celebration is sure to be an enjoyable event for visitors and locals alike who have donated to and supported the reconstruction effort, and for those who have been waiting in anticipation for the opening of the new facility. The celebration will include guest speakers, music, an art exhibit, and a ribbon cutting for the new visitor center. Those planning on attending the grand opening are urged to carpool with friends and neighbors as parking will be limited .
