Park visitors are informed that there are fire restrictions in effect in campgrounds and dispersed campsites throughout Death Valley National Park due to ongoing drought conditions. Fire danger closures will be in effect at Wildrose, Thorndike, and Mahogany Flat Campgrounds and wood campfires will not be allowed between June 15th and September 15th. Charcoal briquette fires are allowed in designated campground grates only. Portable stoves and lanterns are allowed.

The Superintendent has determined that the areas around the above campgrounds are extremely susceptible to wildland fire due to heavy fuel concentrations and low fuel moisture. This restriction is intended to ensure visitor safety as well as resource protection.

The National Park Service would like to remind campers that there are no campfires allowed in dispersed areas within the park, such as the Hunter Mountain or Grapevine Mountain areas, and that possession or use of fireworks anywhere within the park boundaries is prohibited.
