<HTML>The Wildlife Conservation Society, in cooperation with the National Park Service and the USDA Wildlife Services, is setting up monitoring devices to assess black bear activity in developed areas of the valley. The devices are gray metal boxes, about 14 inches on all sides, with an antenna attached to the side. Each device is cabled to a tree. The boxes simply record when a bear, already fitted with a radio collar, enters the area. This information will help to better understand the movements and habits of black bears in Yosemite Valley.</HTML>
