Backpacking w/Fishing Next Week
June 14, 2006 11:55AM

Hello,

First time poster.

I am staying in Yosemite Valley next week with my 12 year old son. While there, I would like to take him backpacking (1 night, 2 days). Also, he loves to fish.

Can anyone recommend any relatively short (< 5 miles one-way) backpacking trips that have some fishing opportunities?

Thank you so much.

Tioga Road is open to Yosemite Creek. A backpack along the creek might be good.

Another possibility would be Little Yosemite Valley via the Mist Trail. But getting a permit might be tough.

I don't know about the fishing situation, but the Cathedral Lakes hike from Tioga Road is just over 4 miles in, and you can camp near the lakes.

Cathedral Lakes would be a bit snow bound right now. They need something lower down.

I'd love to see Cathedral Lakes in the snow. When it's snowbound, is it a good x-country ski destination or perhaps a nice snowshoe trek, or is it plain inaccessible?

You probably could just stomp your way through this time of year.
