Hwy 140 Carpool 6/25/05

Greetings from North Carolina to everyone.

I will be in Yosemite at the end of June, and am looking to arrange a carpool.

I'm trying to find a ride up Tioga Rd from Hwy 140 in Midpines for myself and one companion on Saturday 6/25/05 in the early AM (preferable to pick up before 8am). I am willing to pay for gas plus a "tip" and my final destination is Tenaya Lake in Tuolumne Meadows. All I need is a ride ONE WAY, as we are doing an overnight hike down into the valley via Clouds Rest and Half Dome.

Of course, I understand that there is somewhat of a chance that the road will still be closed at the end of June - I suppose this is a risk we have to take. If you will be in the area, please let me know if you might be of assistance. Thanks!

I don't know how much luck you will have getting a ride. You might try highsierratopix.com if they ever get the website back up. If you don't get a ride, I think there is bus service to the valley. I know you can catch a bus from the valley to Tenaya Lake (it actually goes to Tuolumne Meadows, but I think it stops at Tenaya). It leaves around 8AM and takes several hours, so you may have to allow an extra day in your schedule to make it work.

I know about the Tuolumne bus. It would leave the Valley at 8 and drop me at Tenaya Lake by 10.........I'd love to do the bus, as it would give me an opportunity to enjoy the drive, but I'm just not sure if the bus will be running come 6/25. From what I have gathered, the road typically opens up to cars a few weeks before they start running the Hikers/Tour Bus up to Tuolumne. I'm trying to secure a ride as a backup plan, but I do hope the buses will be in service. Thanks for your help.

I just checked DNC's website re: the bus schedule. You might need that ride after all. It looks like the bus runs July through Labor day. You might want to call them to make sure, though. Connect to http://www.yosemitepark.com/content3col.cfm?SectionID=75&PageID=217
