Anybody know the typical cost? What it costs the person being rescued? Atypical for health insurance to cover it? What it costs the park service or the tax payers?

Trying to find a solid source on the subject is quite difficult (for me :p). I'm trying to write a research paper and the typical rescue cost would be a helpful tidbit to know.

My quick websearch also yielded several other hits with useful cost information (NPS generally does not seek reimbursement, but may sue to recover if gross negligence can be established: http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/2008/04/national-park-search-and-rescue-should-rescued-help-pay-bills ). If you want to replicate my search, download Copernic Agent Basic (a free metasearch engine) from <www.copernic.com> and use the words "helicopter rescue cost yosemite" for the search.
