guns

i noticed last time i was at the Yosemite enterance, they had a sign saying that if you had a gun, you needed to let them know and sign in or something like that.. i thought you weren't allowed to have a firearm in the park? am i wrong? what are the rules for firearms?

You can have the firearm. But you do have to pack it away and do what the sign says. Here's what I was able to find:

Firearms must be unloaded, temporarily inoperable and stored so they can't be readily used.

If you have a gun, I assume you plan to use it, if necessary.

I understand the NP policy and also CHP policy but there is protection afforded by the Bill of Rights, which supercedes all other law.

Have fun, hope you don't need 2nd Amendment on your travels.
