On Saturday, August 11 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm all interested park staff, tribes, gateway communities, organizations, and members of the public are invited to attend the next PLANNER-FOR-A-DAY Workshop at Parsons Lodge in Tuolumne Meadows.

The purpose of this session will be to discuss the Tuolumne Planning Workbook, a report on progress for both the Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River Comprehensive Management Plan and the Tuolumne Meadows Plan. This workbook is currently available for public comment through September 15 (available online at http://www.nps.gov/yose/planning/trp).

As in previous workshops, participants will join planners in discussing ways to move the plan forward. On August 11, the primary assignment will be to consider the range of preliminary management concepts presented in the workbook and come up with ways in which to strengthen them for the Tuolumne River Plan. In the fall, the NPS planning team will begin transforming these concepts into fully-formed alternatives to be analyzed in the draft environmental impact statement (anticipated for public review in summer 2009).

The historic Parsons Lodge is located in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, where nearing the turn of the century, John Muir and Robert Underwood Johnson discussed the creation of a national park system. Join the NPS planning team as we gather to talk about preserving the Tuolumne experience for future generations. (Allow a 30-minute walk to Parsons Lodge from nearby parking areas. Those with mobility impairments who require assistance should make prior arrangements by calling 209/379-1175.) For more information, send and email to yose_planning@nps.gov or contact project manager Kristina Rylands at 209/379-1175.
