Notice of Intent to Adopt a Negative Declaration Announcement of Public Hearing For The State Route 140

Ferguson Slide Restoration

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), as assigned by the Federal Highway Administration is proposing to restore and reopen the section of State Route 140 that was damaged by the Ferguson rockslide. Currently, motorists use a temporary bypass route to travel this portion of State Route 140. Restoration of the original route would give residents, businesses and workers in the area back their original route and eliminate inconvenient detours or extended commute times. Restoration of the original route would also give travelers a direct route to Yosemite National Park and other destinations along State Route 140. Four build alternatives and one nobuild alternative are being considered.

Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. Our studies show it will not have a significant impact on the quality of the environment. This notice is to inform you of the preparation of the Initial Study/Environmental Assessment and of its availability for you to review. Four build alternatives and a no-build alternative were studied in detail. A preferred alternative will be chosen after circulation of the environmental document. A public hearing will be held to give you an opportunity to talk about design features of the project with Caltrans staff before the final design is selected. No formal presentation will be made.
