Yosemite National Park And Yosemite Institute Partner for Innovative Field Research Course
Date: July 21, 2008

The Yosemite Institute and Yosemite National Park will host 18 high school students from across the United States to initiate the Yosemite Institute’s Summer Research course.

The students will participate in ongoing research projects dealing with the park’s ecology and management. They will then go on an 8 day backpacking trip to further their studies and record their findings in a scientific journal.

"We are very excited about this unique and innovative partnership. This will give students experience in both field research and backpacking through Yosemite National Park," said Dr. Adam Burns, Field Science Project Manager for the Yosemite Institute.

Students that complete the course are given college credit from Columbia College, in Sonora, California. The perfect antidote to nature deficit disorder, this is student-centered, inquiry-based learning at its most adventurous. They explore beyond the basic natural history of the area learn field research skills that can be transferred to high school, college and beyond.
