I just watched a History Channel show called "The Works." It's a show about how stuff works or how it's done. This particular show was about Skydiving, and a sub-section of it dealt with base jumping.
The reporter, Daniel Wilson, supposedly a PhD, showed the first base jumper from atop El Capitan (who has since perish-uted), and he said El Capitan is a perilous 300 feet high.
(He failed to mention that Yosemite Valley is only about 500 feet wide and about 3/4 mile long).
Minor detail mistakes like that kind of ruin an entire program.
You can watch the show on History's web page here (when they post it, they haven't yet).
