Preparations are being made by fire crews to burn grass in El Portal. The burning operation will be a one day project, beginning Thursday, June 11, 2009. The atmosphere is conducive to smoke dispersal. The purpose of this burn project is to remove available fuel for defensible space. The location will be the slope behind houses between the Post Office and water tanks. Crews have been in the area this week preparing the ground by weed whacking and placing hose lines behind the homes. Fire information personnel will be in the area tomorrow and the day of the project placing, information flyers at homes and talking with residents. If anyone has questions please call 372-0480.
