BLM fire prevention closure on July 4 at Crowley Lake North Landing

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Bishop Field Office will temporarily close approximately 2,500 acres of public lands near the Crowley Lake North Shore/North Landing for the entire day of July 4 and a portion of July 5.

“This closure is a preventative measure to minimize the risk of fire, enhance public safety and protect sensitive habitat on July 4 and 5 when many people go to Crowley for the fireworks display,” said Bishop BLM Acting Field Manager Kirk Halford. “For firefighter and public safety, visitors will be concentrated in an area that can be patrolled and evacuated in the event of a wildland fire. It has been a fairly wet spring. However, the potential is for high fire danger by the July 4 weekend with a more normal warm and dry pattern descending on the region.”

The BLM public lands and associated roads will be closed to entry and all recreational use by the general public. This order is effective beginning July 4 at 12:01 a.m. and terminates July 5 at 12:01 p.m. For those people with topographic or status maps, the legal description of the lands affected is Township 3 South, Range 29 East, Sections 27, 28, 32, 33, and 34.

Fireworks are not allowed anytime on BLM and national forest lands, as well as many other areas of Inyo and Mono counties.
