Despite the spotty annual flower show this year the perennials, especially at higher elevations (6,000 ft. and above) are starting to pop. Bitterbrush with it’s yellow flowers are bursting along the Hwy. 395 corridor from Bishop north and hillsides often are graced with the familiar mule’s years, and arrow-leaf balsam root. The silver lupine is following and tufts of low-growing perennial cushion plants are making their appearance in the Bodie Hills. I spent Saturday 6/27 in the Henness Pass/Stampede Reservoir area. Parked the car, wandered around a meadow, had XM 5 on full blast. The creek was dry but there was quite a display of desktop wallpaper there.
