Schwarzenegger vetoed Senate Bill 589, which would have added transparency to how the Department of Fish and Game spends money received from hunting tags and stamps. The bill would have mandated that user fees — about $9.5 million from the sale of bear, elk, wild sheep, antelope, wild pig, deer and upland bird tags and stamps — be used for related conservation activities and public hunting purposes. It would have required the DFG to file Internet reports detailing how the money was spent.
