Changes Proposed to Glacier National Park's Fishing Regulations

WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Resource managers at Glacier National Park are proposing changes to fishing regulations within the park, officials announced. The objective of these regulation changes is to help park managers to better manage native fish resources consistent with Glacier’s conservation mandate.

Proposals include changes to provide additional protection to native westslope cutthroat trout populations on the west side of the park through implementation of catch and release regulations and liberalizing catch and possession limits on non-native brook trout throughout the park.

Other potential changes address regulation simplification, clarification, and consistency. The National Park Service is seeking public comment on these proposals. Comments will be accepted through Wednesday, December 30, 2009.

A full description of proposed changes can be found on the Glacier National Park website at www.nps.gov/glac/parkmgmt/planning.htm.

Comments may be submitted electronically at: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/glac or in writing to: Superintendent, Attn: New Fishing Regulations, Glacier National Park, P.O. Box 128, West Glacier, Montana 59936.
