Denali National Park and Preserve is holding two public hearings on proposed additions to the 2010 Superintendent’s Compendium that would prohibit using artificial light to take black bear at dens, as well as prohibit the take of bear cubs or sows with cubs at dens. Under recently adopted state general hunting regulations, any Alaska resident with a hunting license is authorized to engage in these practices in certain game management units, which includes small portions of Denali National Preserve.

The public hearings on these proposals will be held at the following locations, dates, and times:
Nikolai - Thursday, March 25, Nikolai School, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Denali National Park – Monday, March 29, Murie Science and Learning Center, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

A copy of Denali’s proposed compendium and comment links are available at http://www.nps.gov/akso/compendium. A written copy may be requested by calling the Superintendent’s Office at (907) 683-9581 or by writing to: Superintendent, ATTN: Compendium, P.O. Box 9, Denali Park, AK 99755.

Written comments may be submitted to the park at this e-mail us link, faxed to (907) 683-9612 or mailed to the above address.

Additional park information is available at http://www.nps.gov/dena or by calling (907) 683-2294 daily between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
