Yukon-Charley Hearing Set on Wolf Closure
Date: March 22, 2010

The National Park Service will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 22, 2010, on a proposed closure of Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve to the taking of wolves by general (sport) hunters and trappers.

The potential closure is due to a declining number of wolves in the preserve. Preserve biologists generally see a decline in wolf numbers between 11-to-37 percent from fall to spring. The recent preserve counts are at or above the high end of that range. The temporary closure would extend through the normal May 1 end of the sport hunting season.

The hearing will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Eagle Library.

Comments will also be accepted by email until midnight on Monday, March 22.
