The South Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, and the road segments from there to Lake and Old Faithful, open for the season at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14.

The only road in the park that remains closed is Dunraven Pass, between Tower and Canyon. It is scheduled to open at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21.

Due to construction through the Gibbon Canyon between Norris and Madison, visitors can expect up to 30-minute delays through October 20. This section of road will also be closed to travel between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. every night until September 1.

There will be no daytime delays or overnight closures due to construction on any park road project during holiday weekends.

Limited visitor services are available at this time of year, but some facilities are open at most locations. For information on facility opening dates, please visit http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/index.htm.

Spring visitors to Yellowstone should be prepared for a wide range of winter and spring weather conditions, including plows clearing snow from the roads, and temporary road closures. Snow tires may be required at times on certain road segments.

Snow remains on many trails and boardwalks which may limit access in some areas.

Updated Yellowstone National Park road information is available 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.

Outside of the park’s Northeast Entrance, the road from Cooke City, Montana, to Cody, Wyoming, via the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and Sunlight Basin Road, is open for the season, although weather conditions could force temporary closures. For more information, travelers in Wyoming may dial 511; those outside of Wyoming may call 1-888-996-7623, or visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation website at http://www.wyoroad.info/.

The Beartooth Pass from Cooke City to Red Lodge, Montana, normally opens on the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. Visitors may dial 511 from either Montana or Wyoming to obtain more information, or visit the Montana Department of Transportation website at http://mdt511.com/.
