Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range are at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry Volcano, and Crater Lake, in Oregon; and Medicine Lake volcano, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak in northern California.
Recent Observations: This past week we saw two low-frequency earthquakes (up to M1.6) at Mount Baker (WA), which were similar to earthquakes seen at the volcano throughout most of last summer. The locations and occurrences of these earthquakes are consistent with a glacier source. Elsewhere, seismic activity and ground deformation at Cascade Range volcanoes remained at background levels. This week crews took advantage of some rare good weather to perform equipment maintenance work at Mount St. Helens (WA).
