AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA
222 PM PDT TUE JUN 9 2009

.DISCUSSION...THE UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVING ACROSS SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA THIS AFTERNOON HAS BROUGHT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO
THE SIERRA NEVADA...THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE KERN MOUNTAINS AND
INTO THE KERN DESERT. CONVECTION WILL DECREASE LATE THIS EVENING
AS THE SHORTWAVE MOVES EAST OF THE AREA AND INTO THE FOUR CORNERS
AREA BY WEDNESDAY MORNING BUT IT WILL BE REPLACED BY ANOTHER
SHORTWAVE MOVING INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FROM THE NORTHWEST. THIS
WILL KEEP A TROUGH PATTERN OVER THE AREA THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF
THE WEEK WITH A CONTINUED THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE SIERRA
NEVADA AND BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE DROPS INTO
THE TROUGH OVER THE WEEKEND WITH THE ECMWF BEING A LITTLE DEEPER
AND COLDER WITH THIS SYSTEM THAN THE GFS. HAVE TRENDED
TEMPERATURES A LITTLE MORE TOWARD THE ECMWF AND HAVE ALSO
INCREASED CLOUD COVER SLIGHTLY OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO MONDAY
WITH THIS SYSTEM.

Tadpole downpour stumps Japanese meteorologists
Posted Wed Jun 10, 2009 9:45pm AEST
The rainy season has just started in Tokyo, but residents in a small coastal town have reported a different phenomenon: tadpoles dropping out of the sky.
An office clerk in Nanao first noticed the anomaly when he heard a dull thud in a parking lot last week, news reports said.
Looking around, he saw about 100 dead tadpoles splattered on car windscreens and on the ground.
More reports followed from bewildered residents in Nanao......

Thanks, Frank...and now, back to the Sierra

I pushed back my weekend visit to Mammoth another week, threat of snow.

I love T-storms but don't want to hike in it, nor snow flurries in mid-June. I'm going to find me a nice high desert place in a couple days.

Back to the Sierra?

Yeah, good idea on the desert. There's alot of desert areas in the Sierra.
