There was new snow in the Tioga Pass area yesterday afternoon. This is one weird June.

I should hope not. The time I climbed Dana was through snow (Memorial Day weekend long ago) and it wasn't much of a problem. The fun part was back at the road walking to my car with the tourists gawking at me and my ice axe.

The self-belay function is all I used on Dana. The biggest problem was post holing; get an early start.

Hmmm...Ice axe...good stand-in for opening a bottle of beer, I have heard!

Self-arrest...the best I do is give the cops a little head start..

Seriously, without proper training, practice, and tecnique...the ice axe probably won't do me much good at this point -- common sense will have to suffice. However, I do plan to take up those skills in the not too distant future.

Sounds like a great stocking stuffer, though.
