LAS VEGAS — Temperatures in Death Valley — the legendary hottest place on Earth — at least tied a record Sunday as a heat wave brought triple-digit highs across the West. The National Weather Service’s thermometer recorded a peak temperature of 128 degrees in Death Valley National Park, which ties the record for the hottest June day anywhere in the country.
