I see. So back then Wawona wasn't in the Yosemite NP boundaries. I guess that might explain that section of private property in the Wawona area. Those property owners probably refused to sell the Park Service (must have been since the NPS was formed in 1916).

I'm curious what a map of Yosemite NP looked like when Devils Postpile was inside the boundaries. I've heard that mining interests forced the redrawing of the boundaries to tap gold deposits in the area.

I wonder what the "auto checking statons" and "read sign" cautions were all about?

The Old Big Oak Flat Road was so narrow from Gentry's to the valley floor that traffic went up and down on different schedules.

I wrote my BA thesis on the development of transportation in Yosemite in 1971, and I encountered numerous mentions of the controls used. I also just snooped around my den until I found my copy of the thesis and observed a photocopy of the first Yosemite automobile permit issued to a Mr. Leach of Los Angeles on August 23, 1913.

A lot of changes!

BETTER YET! The second map says "Merced Lake Lodge"

Don't recall seeing the second one before. Don't think I have that one. Thanks

My point exactly. It doesn't matter what you call it, it is what it is.
