All of that stuff is great and necessary, but it doesn’t exactly prepare you for some of the situations that you encounter while out on the trail. Here are 20 of the top backpacking tips and lessons that I’ve learned from personal experience and the experts.

#1) Bring along Sacajawea tongue sticking out smiley

Some of those are bollocks in Yosemite.
(2,3,&4 are the same)
(5 is bs in Yose)
(6 is bs in Sierra unless you hike only 4 miles a day)
(9-12 .. yawn.. quit friggin worrying about bears in Yose)

Here's something alot more useful:

It seems unlikely that the author has read anything about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. They violated almost every one of these recommendations (possibly complied with 7,17,18).

Frank,
You are obviously thinking of the Corps of Discovery expedition.
From his blog tips, I think that he meant Lewis and Clark Broncovitch, friends of his that reside in Sparks, Nevada.

I particularily like the "how to train"....

"check your o-rings"

"get out and hike"

(some people seem to not be able to actually get out of the car so that's the best one)
