With all that snow, they ought to be done by the 19th ;-)

If it's not all melted first. I went snowcamping at Dewey Point this past weekend and nearly passed out in my snowpants it was so hot.

What will the union do if there's no plowing to do? heheh.

My wife and I are thinking of heading out to Yosemite in the beginning of May (flying from Rochester, NY). How are the conditions out there for driving (Tioga Pass, other roads) or hiking? We'll probably only be able to bring snowshoes. Anyone know of any good places to stay (cabins?)?

Tioga Pass will probably (and don't count on it!) open in mid-May. Same for the Glacier Point road. Conditions on the other roads should be fine.

You can bring snowshoes but you probably won't need them even if you end up walking on snow. The snow will be hard that late in the season.

Yosemite West is pretty close, they have rentals:

Here are the dates Tioga road opened since 1980. Beginning of May might be pushing it. But who knows, not much snow this year. I think there was a lot of snow the last two years and that's why it opened in June. But I'm no expert.

The road is plowed all the way through. Currently widening and secondary roads are being done.

There was some new snow from yesterday. But it shouldn't take much to plow it off.

The Tioga Pass cam shows a flag on the pole now. Maybe we'll be open soon?
