ScienceDaily (Aug. 4, 2009) — Pine trees grown for 12 years in air one-and-a-half times richer in carbon dioxide than today's levels produced twice as many seeds of at least as good a quality as those growing under normal conditions, a Duke University-led research team reported Aug. 3 at a national ecology conference.

That's because CO2 levels in the atmosphere, compared to records over the last 300 million years (determined from a variety of sources, mainly rock samples), is at an "historic" low. Cambrian level CO2 levels were 18 times higher than today. Use your google noodle and find the truth inconvenient to Al Gore.

Perhaps that is why only Nevadan microbial 'crud' existed on the land at that time:

This issue is not how much the earth has changed since origin, but how has it changed recently compared to similar intervals in the recent past.

The question is how did the CO2 change between 500,000 and 499,800 yrs ago? Or choose any 200 yr interval that you want in the last 600,000 yrs. Did that 200 year period represent the sort of CO2 change and temperature change earth scientists are reporting for the last 200 yrs? Not according to the journal Science:
