Three Fires Burning Near Kernville

Kernville, CA., August 31, 2009...Several fires were discovered burning along Highway 155 near Kernville this morning. Some of the smaller fires burned together resulting in three separate larger fires as of noon today. The Wofford Complex is being managed under unified command by the U.S. Forest Service and Kern County Fire Department. Firefighters have managed to contain 50% of the total 75 acres burning.

Advisories are in place for Juniper Highlands and Mt. Shadows for possible evacuation, at this time this is just an advisory and not a mandatory evacuation. The fires are burning in light brush, grass, and rocky terrain. Over 100 firefighters are on scene including 2 helicopters, 5 air tankers, 4 engines, 5 hand crews, 10 fire patrols, and overhead personnel. Cause of the fires is under investigation.
