merced temperature in mid June
June 03, 2007 02:59AM
I'll be at housekeeping the week of June 11th and was wandering what the water temperature will be like. I always like to play in the water at the housekeeping beach but I usually don't go this early.

Will it be too cold to swim? Or will the flow be too dangerous? What about rafts?

Thanks

They were already renting rafts at Curry last week, at the end of May.

The river and falls are still springlike, but a LOT smaller than last year at this time. (we went to see the "moonbow" at lower Yosemite falls and there was not a lot of mist for the bow to form in).

As for temperature, if this hot weather keeps up it might feel pretty good; but jumping in beyond my knees was not something that tempted me last week, and I'm pretty tolerant of cold water swimming.

I just found the USGS flow data for the Merced and it is VERY low this year. The lowest it has ever been in the last 91 years was back in 1924 when the flow was 116cfs. The average is about 1300cfs.

Today (June 10) the flow was only 176cfs!
