Yosemite Fire Management Staff, along with cooperators and private contractors, will be conducting prescribed fire activities around the Hodgdon Meadow area Wednesday through Friday of this week.
Tomorrow, a 30-acre parcel on the ridge north of Hodgdon Campground and immediately adjacent to the Mather Entrance Station will be burned, if all environmental prescriptive parameters are met.
On Friday, another 20-30 acres will be burned between the Hodgdon Campground and Hodgdon Fire Station. Both of these units have been burned in the past.
These maintenance burns will keeps surface fuel accumulations and ladder fuels reduced to minimize the threat of a wildfire causing damage to park infrastructure. These burns also mimic the role of lightning in keeping mixed conifer forests healthy, by reducing competition to overstory pine and black oak.
