It strikes me that the wild abandon and the universal conservative glee associated with the "Drill Baby Drill" was similar to the almost ubiquitous euphoria associated with the early days of the invasion of Iraq.

I thought that it was more reminiscent of the Nuremberg Rallies.

I recall many, seemingly intelligent people, who behaved like they were following a sports tournament during the run-up and initial days of the Iraq war. It didn't seem really like jingoistic racism so much as a clueless, chauvinistic, ethnocentric egotism.
