I had to look up where "Priest Lake" was. Apparently people have been nailing shoes to the tree since the 1940s, and it was found on fire. The tree itself didn't seem to burn to the ground, but apparently the Forest Service had a heck of a time putting out the fire with all that burning rubber.

The tree did it. She got tired of all those shoes making it look ugly.

The concept of this "shoe tree" becomes less strange if one just considers Idaho to be 'Northern Nevada.'

This place is closer to Canada than Nevada.

Highly unlikely that Canadians are infiltrating across the border to terrorize Idaho trees.
News reports that I have seen over the years indicate that the Coeur D'Alene region has well-established wacko elements in the population.

Well - yeah. I've heard that for some reason white supremacists seem to have flocked to the area like new ager flocking to Santa Fe.
