camping at White Wolf

If I'm going to try and get a couple of tent spots at White Wolf, where do I need to go to check availability? Is there an office at each campground? Do I need to go to Tuolumne Meadows office? If I arrive on Sunday, Aug. 12th, what are the odds of me even getting a spot? Can I cook on a camping stove there?

You drive around the campground and find a site that isn't taken.

The odds should be very good and if White Wolf is full, just go to Yosemite Creek.

Just curious.
Of all my times to Yosemite, I have never heard why it is called White Wolf. I am going to TM next week, and I know that my boys will ask that question if they see the sign.

I seem to recall that it was named after a local native chief. Our bus driver said something to that effect. It's not as if anyone knew if there were ever any wolves in the area in the first place.
