6th cougar caught, killed on Oregon sheep farm

BROWNSVILLE, Ore. — A Brownsville farmer and her son say they still don't feel safe after a trapper killed a cougar on her farm — the sixth cougar found on her property in two months.

Cathy Stepp says she and her 12-year-old son Colton both carry firearms with them when they travel on their property.

Stepp raises sheep, and she's lost five ewes to cougars since June.

Linn County trapper Jim Schacht had been tracking the cougar since Aug. 7, when Stepp reported one of her ewes was killed.

Her trouble may not be over. Stepp says a neighbor called her Friday morning to report another cougar crossing into her property.

It was not that long ago that cougars were nearly eliminated.
