I went at the end of October last year, and I think the colors were about at their peak for the valley.

This year has been so different, weatherwise, that I'm not sure what will happen. The dry year may affect it by making it early, but it's also been really hot, which may affect it another way by delaying things.

I'm heading up a little earlier, around the 23rd, and have no idea what I'll find, but there are always photos, regardless.

One thing I learned was that a good storm can knock a lot of leaves off in a hurry, so beautiful fall colors one day can be mostly gone in a short time.

Good luck with your photo venture and new camera.

Forrestranger, thanks for the comment. Hope you get some fall color, though there's always something in the valley if you look around at the right times. Usually, when I see a bunch of people taking photos, I figure they've got that one covered, and go the other direction, to see if I can find what they're missing 8^).

I'll be there this weekend, and plan on taking tons of pics (I always do!). You can check my flickr site by WEdnesday next week.

Some color changing in the Valley this past weekend, mostly in the canyons above the floor. I tried to zoom in from the rim when I could. Hope it helps gauge the full turning for y'all.

Got this article in my e-mail today, which offers an 'eastern' perspective (and, yes, it's on topic).

Enjoy.

Laura,

If you put a "<" directly in front of your URL and a ">" directly at the end of your URL it will be hot. Don't include the quotes though.

Nice article. Thanks for posting it.

As of 10/13: Some of the Oak trees are in full fall color, but most of them have just started. There is a little red (dogwood?), but not much. Ferns are yellow.

There are several deciduous trees with long slender leaves (sorry, don't know the species). These have turned brilliant yellow. One is in the meadow across from Yosemite Lodge that is perfect for framing against Half Dome.
