Last week in the valley

I stayed in the valley for a few days last week (Tues-Fri) and it was more summery than autumn-like for weather. Plans for a couple of hikes got shoved into the "next time" bin as temps were in the mid-80's. With the fall color in the valley, it just seemed natural to have a relaxed, bike-riding and enjoying the valley visit. Lots of photo opportunities, with the maples, dogwoods, and oaks showing color, lots of early morning and late afternoon sunlight, and a full moon to boot.

Though I'm way behind in posting photos for a busy month, I managed to get a few in an October Yosemite Valley album at

I saw a nice variety of wildlife, considering having only a couple of full days in the valley. If you're thinking of an autumn visit to the valley, better get up there soon; a good storm will knock down a lot of the color.

By Thursday, the smoke from the southern CA fires had invaded the area. While it made nice afternoon lighting, visibility was down for any distance viewing. Even the folks who lined up at Sentinel bridge to catch the red evening Half Dome light were disappointed on Thursday, as there just wasn't enough sunlight getting through for the "glow".

Your pictures from last week are beautiful. I didn't have any plans to drive up but I'm going to reconsider.
