Stevens County wild dog pack 'killing for fun'
By The Associated Press

A pack of dogs has killed about 100 animals in the past three months in northeastern Washington state while eluding law enforcement and volunteers.

Officers have tried to track the pack but had little success because the dogs seem to hunker down during the day and move only at night, Stevens County Undersheriff Lavonne Webb said Thursday.

"We've only had one or two sightings during daytime hours," Webb said in a telephone interview from Colville.

In their most recent attack, the dogs killed a 350-pound llama earlier this week. They've also killed other farm animals, including goats.

Authorities are warning residents to take whatever steps are necessary to protect their families and animals because the dogs appear to be killing for fun rather than food. No humans have been attacked, but officers fear that could happen.

... Deer Park resident Temma Davis told KXLY-TV that neighbors are worried about kids getting off school buses or riding their bikes.

"They're bloodthirsty," Davis said of the dogs. "It's like `Cujo,'" the Stephen King book and movie about a vicious killer dog.

This is so alarming. The fact that this wild dogs are bloodthirsty suggests that we need to do something about it as soon as we can. Though right now we can see a moderate harm because only livestock is the one being slaughtered but let us consider that time will come that this poor animals will decreased in number so the wild dogs will look for a new target. I'm afraid the number one on the list are the small children. Good thing that three of them are already killed. The proof is here: Three lethal, wild dogs killed in Washington State.

Don't quite understand why authorities would have a hard time tracking down the pack. When a mountain lion kills or maims a person, authorities are usually able to track down the rogue mountain lion and kill it by using hound dogs and also by following its tracks.

With help of hound dogs, I don't think it should be too difficult for law enforcement authorities to find the tracks of the feral dog pack and track them down and kill them.
