Quick Question about Permits from First-Timer
April 15, 2008 09:34PM
So, gathering I need to get a permit if we want to camp overnight @ Yosemite. Read somewhere that the 'quota season' starts 5/15 and we're visiting there 5/1. Does this mean I'm gauranteed a permit since we're not going during the quota season? Any recos on how to secure a permit before getting to Yosemite (so we don't have to eat up valuable Yosemite time chasing down a permit)?

Many thanks!

The quotas are for back country camping. If you are wanting to use a campsite in a campground, you'll either need a reservation of luck in getting one of the first-come-first-serve sites.

Are you referring to a camping reservation? Right now, most of the Valley campsites are booked for the period you want to visit, especially the weekend - there are other options nearby, or you could go on a daily basis to the camping reservation booth at Ciurry Village to see if there have been any cancellations. Sort of a hassle, but Yosemite Valley is a super-popular place to camp...

There's also Camp 4.
