Hi there. Being one of those who are going to Yosemite this coming Memorial Day and being unlucky to get a reservation, I decided to gamble my luck on the several campsites west of the park especially Dimond O. I wanted to find out:

1.) I read somewhere that half of the campgrounds in Dimond O are first come first serve. Is that true? How nice are they? Do they have pit or flush toilets? Running water?

2.) How far is it from the Valley? In both miles and time

3.) Would it be insanely trafficky going to the Valley?

Dimond 0 is on reservations. http://www.recreation.gov/

Pit toilets. Not sure about water.

Cost is $19 for single family. $38 for multi-family sites.

Traffic to Yosemite Valley on 120 is usually OK, except for the
backup at the entrance station. On Memorial Day, you might
have a wait of (guessing) 15-30 minutes.

I would also expect about 30 minutes from Dimond 0 assuming
zero traffic. So the total time would be 45-60 minutes, my
estimate. No guarantees!

I haven't' camped there, but I've driven by it.

If you can't get a reservation at Dimond 0, there are a number of
private campgrounds along 120.
