exceeding max number per campsite

i think i goofed. i got bad info from a "seasoned yosemite camper" who informed me that children under 10 years of age do not count towards the max number of campers per campsite. obviously, he was wrong! the problem now is that i invited additional family members which will put our numbers at six adults and three children. my question is how strict are rangers in enforcing the max number per campsite and has anyone run into this dilemma before. i don't want to disinvite family members, but i don't really want to break the rules either. help!

I've never tried to put more than six in a Valley campsite. But if you aren't obnoxious about it and don't give them chances to count that they aren't able to ignore, you should get away with it.
