Wasn't this predicted?

Quote; "Scientists are worried about methane bubbling to the surface of the Arctic Ocean. The thawing of the Arctic as temperatures rise is releasing methane in the seabed. Scientists say high levels of the gas in the atmosphere could speed up climate change."

Let us hope they don't trigger a Siberian version of the Storegga Landslide of some 7-8,000 years ago off the coast of Norway. That produced a mega-tsunami that reached a height of 25 meters on the coast of the Shetland Islands.

Bad news indeed. One of the theories I have heard about the Permian extinction (in which 95% of Earth's species bit the dust) was that it was caused by solid methane under the oceans melting and poisoning the oceans. The theory is that volcanism in Siberia spewed enough CO2 into the air to increase temperatures by a lousy 8-10 degrees Fahrenheit over a span of 60,000 years, which was enough to start melting the methane stores which brought the temperature up another 8-10 degrees. Amazing to see that 8-10 degrees over 60,000 years can almost kill a planet and yet half the nation acts like 1 degree in 150 years is nothing.

And what are we to do about it (the methane release)?

Stop making things worse by adding millions more tons of other greenhouse gasses.

It's Gods will. She put all the fossil fuel for us to burn baby.

Seriously... recently watched "Crude Awakening" ... and it's just depressing...
we can put a man on the moon... but not sure we can solve this one...

I recommend watching that documentary.
