Milpitas Special Interest Area Plan Completed

KING CITY, CA… Los Padres National Forest officials have announced the completion of themanagement plan for the Milpitas Special Interest Area (SIA). The management plan is the product of a two-year effort by Forest Service Enterprise team member Douglas Stephens of Mountain Heritage Associates and the staff of the Monterey Ranger District. The entire plan is available for viewing on the Los Padres National Forest internet site.
The management plan encourages collaboration between the Forest Service and parties interested in the future of the Milpitas SIA. Attendees at meetings over the last two years and interested groups and individuals who have corresponded by mail suggested opportunities that have provided constructive guidance for the plan.
The Monterey Ranger District will continue to provide encouragement and support to tribal and public individuals and groups who are interested in collaborating to produce specific results.
“The plan is general and makes no promises; however, it does express the District’s willingness to participate to the degree it can to maximize the benefits of the SIA, while protecting and improving its resources,” said Monterey District Ranger Sherry Tune. “I encourage the public and Salinan tribal members to continue the dialogue regarding the Milpitas SIA so that we work together to keep Milpitas the special place that it is.”
