Santorini is a tourist magnet, famous for its breathtaking, cliff side views and sunsets. It's also a volcanic island that has been relatively calm since its last eruption in 1950. Until now. The Santorini caldera is awake again and rapidly deforming at levels never seen before. Georgia Tech Associate Professor Andrew Newman has studied Santorini since setting up more than 20 GPS stations on the island in 2006.

But isn't the world going to be gone on December 12th?

Anyone believing any of it is not sane, so it doesn't matter who you ask. One guy is claiming May 27th. I think Dec. 12 is supposed to be either a shift in our magnetic poles (which has been uneventful the thousands of times it's changed before) or an alignment with the black hole in the center of our Universe. They forget that since it's in the center; we're always in "alignment" with it. The 21st is the Mayan thing.

I predict the super caldera beneath Yellowstone will erupt before that, maybe tomorrow? smileys with beer

laugh if you want, but I am concerned about this Thursday 3/22/2012. every 188 days there is planetary alignment that has triggered big quakes.

Indonesia + 188 = NZ + 188 = Fukishima + 188 = Fiji + 188 = Thursday

Alignments like that happen all the time and nothing happens. Nothing will happen. Gravity is not magnified by these alignments since the the magnitude of the force of gravity declines as the square of the distance between objects. That means it drops off rapidly. The Sun barely has any effect on the Earth. The Moon causes larger tides than the Sun does. The gravity of other planets has a negligible effect on the Earth and certainly not enough to cause earthquakes.
