Late on Wednesday, May 8, maintenance staff discovered a blockage of a sewer line in the wood lot area. In finding this blockage, they also found that about 1500 feet of the line needed to be replaced. A temporary line has been installed.

Maintenance crews are working with contractors to determine a replacement strategy. At this time, it is expected that the line replacement will take place following Memorial Day weekend. This work will require closure of Northside Drive and the re-routing of traffic to Southside Drive during the proposed two-week period of construction (D.Conway, Acting Chief of Interpretation)

<HTML>Spent yesterday in the valley. I hope that the repairs to these sewerlines are finished before the main thrust of tourist starts. The trafic is already bad in the area where the detour is and I expect it will only get worse. Also there is alot of noise from the work crews in the area just across from Bridalviel Falls. And there is a slight smell of sewage too in that area. Anyone heading to the valley needs to drive very carefully in the detour areas. Not only do you have the normal conjestion at the turn outs for El Cap and Bridalveil, but now it is comming from both directions.

Other than that, it was a great Yosemite day!!!</HTML>
