URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA
448 AM PDT TUE APR 7 2009

...MODERATE SNOW COMING TO THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA THIS EVENING THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING...

A LATE SEASON PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL REACH CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THIS AFTERNOON. THE
STORM WILL BRING MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY
SNOWFALL OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN
SIERRA NEVADA...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HANFORD HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR
SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM PDT
WEDNESDAY FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA.

A LATE SEASON STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INLAND...BRINGING MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY
SNOWFALL OVER THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SNOW
LEVELS STARTING OUT AROUND 7500 FEET TODAY WILL LOWER TO AROUND 5000 FEET BY
WEDNESDAY MORNING. NEW SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS TOTALING 6 TO 12 INCHES WILL BE
POSSIBLE ABOVE 7000 FEET BY LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING...WITH AROUND 5 INCHES
POSSIBLE AT THE 5000 FOOT LEVEL. LOCAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY COULD
BE EVEN GREATER IN THE HEAVIEST SNOW SHOWERS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES.
BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED
VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
