Aging not so gracefully
September 21, 2020 10:10AM
I spent this last weekend working on projects around our cabin in the Sierra...

Since we only go up for a few days at a time in the winter, we don't need that much wood...but we still haven't burned up all the wood we created by cutting down a few dead trees and rebuilding parts of the deck. And over the years it had grown into a mass of a mess. So I pulled out everything from the woodshed and put it back into place. What fun.

And once I did that, I also took a few hours to dig some larger beds in front of the cabin where we can plant some groundcover---all part of making the place look a little more like part of the living forest, and a little less like a desert compound.

So imagine my delight when i started doing a few stretches this morning and felt a pop in the back of my leg as I pulled a hamstring muscle. I haven't done in nearly fifty years---and that was back when I was playing very competitive soccer.

So now i get to loll around and do very little. Just what the doctor didn't order for someone my age. As a dear old friend of mine liked to say: "Getting old sucks. But it beats the alternative." Sigh.

My husband is right there with you. Our property is really steep in places and I keep telling him he is getting too old to do the slopes and just to hire someone to do our fire clearance and he won't. This year he twisted his ankle doing the front, fell, rolled down the slope over the retaining wall and landed on our neighbor's driveway and hit his head. So guess what, we had to hire someone to finish it and months later he is still hobbling around and can't do much. I guess the key is to admit you are getting older, don't be stubborn and get some help.

Thanks JKW. Now to get him to go back to the doctor to find out why he is still having issues. Men are so stubborn at times. smiling smiley Stay safe and have fun when you can. Hugs.

Just had a giant needle shoved into my knee joint. That kind of thing tends to lead to stubborness. winking smiley

I've had two of those, Eeek. One in each knee. Both worked miraculously. YMMV, of course, but wishing you the same luck..

This was my second in the same knee. First one was just a tiny needle.

I lost count how many times I have had needles shoved into multiple parts of my body so my husband, who has never had that done, can't blame his stubbornness on that. smiling smiley

But has he seen it done to you?

No, he never goes with me to the doctors so he has missed me squirming as they try to get past the heavy scar tissue in my knee to get the needles in nor has he seen them go into my other joints. . And, I don't share with him about what goes on. Frankly, I am surprise he was able to watch me give birth without passing out.

There comes a time when we all must change to non-competitive soccer.

Sorry to hear about your hammy.
Ok, yeah, I’m getting to a question...

So you are saying the air was safe enough to be outside for a long time along The 108?
(I’m jesting on Th 108, I know your cabin is in Twain Harte) tongue sticking out smiley.

I empathize with your hamstring injury, good luck on recovery! Be well!

The air at the cabin was pretty good Fri/Sat. Sunday was much worse....and the smoke got much worse the higher you went. Pinecrest was supposed to be really bad all weekend. But Jamestown was quite clear and clean until Sunday
