Hetch Hetchy warm up backpack
May 14, 2017 10:30AM
Early season short warm up trip out of Hetch Hetchy to a creek zone I've never been to that sees very few visitors. Both the creek given high flows and cliff edges are potentially lethally dangerous so anyone considering this ought to be an experienced backpacker with off trail travel. There are also rattlesnakes in this geology at these elevations so one needs to be comfortable knowing that can be.

Total distance is a bit over 4 miles with 1 cross country, vertical less than 2k feet, thus moderate. Will hike as a group leisurely within voice range stopping occasionally. All elevations are below 6k thus no snow and no stream crossings. Although I can readily do the trip solo, am offering it here as an opportunity for a few experienced here, female or male to meet as a small group. One person on another board is already interested. In order to be around for a day to make best use of optimal photographic light, see 2 nights over 3 days about right hiking out the third day by mid morning.

Dates will be beyond the Memorial Day weekend May 27>29 into early June determined after the 5/20>21 weekend by group email inputs. Will provide location and route details and discuss logistics at that time. Have thoroughly analyzed route on topos and Google Earth and will send screen snapshots per noted email. Have already discussed the destination with a resident Hetch Hetchy entrance station person that himself visited the area last summer.
